McGill University

Annie Thériault is a former youth in care, a recreation technician, and the mother of a young boy. She is involved with the Consortium as an expert with lived experience. After being removed from a household marked by physical violence, alcoholism, and numerous traumas, she grew up in the youth protection system from the ages of 2 to 18. Today, she uses her experiences as a catalyst for change and shares her journey with authenticity and sensitivity through conferences and her blog, with the goal of inspiring, raising awareness, and better equipping current and future practitioners. Convinced that every challenge shapes the future, Annie wants to show that despite the scars of the past, young people can rise up, believe in themselves, and move forward. She is actively involved in various projects aimed at making a real difference and giving a voice to young people who, like her, have been through similar experiences. For Annie, the system has its purpose and its value, but it still needs to be improved to better meet the needs of young people. Her favorite saying is, “Everything happens for a reason.”
