Edgar Psychological
Carmen Ekkelenkamp, MA, R. Psych., is a registered psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists and a foster parent. As a psychologist, she specializes in working with youth and adults who have been affected by developmental, relational, intergenerational, and complex trauma. She also supports parents and caregivers of children and youth who have been similarly affected. As a foster parent, she studies, witnesses, and participates in the day-to-day life of children who experience the consequences of prenatal, early life, and intergenerational trauma. In both of her roles, she has the responsibility and privilege of learning the history and practices of Indigenous Canadians, and integrating them into her understanding of trauma and healing. Her unique combination of extensive training, therapeutic practice, and lived experience lend her specialized insights and perspectives to the conversation about child and youth trauma in Canada.
