Tracie Afifi

Tracie O. Afifi, PhD, is a full Professor in the Department of Community Health Sciences with a cross appointment in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Manitoba. She is recipient of the Royal-Mach-Gaensslen Prize for Mental Health Research from The Royal’s Institute of Mental Health Research, and the CIHR Gold Leaf Prize for Outstanding Achievements by an Early Career Investigator. Dr. Afifi's research focuses on the area of child maltreatment including: physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, emotional neglect, physical neglect, physical punishment, and exposure to intimate partner violence, including the mental and physical health correlates of child maltreatment. Her work currently examines the size and scope of the problem of child maltreatment in Canada, as well as child maltreatment-related risk and protective factors, intervention and prevention strategies, and fostering resilience following child maltreatment.
