This 36-hour certificate in Trauma-Informed Clinical Practice is an online asynchronous course of study. The program offers accessible, necessary critical trauma training to mental health professionals. The course examines trauma via an anti-oppressive and biopsychosocial lens while adhering to the tenets of social work and mental health counseling practice. Simultaneously, the program integrates neurobiological, psychoanalytic, healing justice, and evidenced based understandings to aid mental health professionals to better assess and treat individuals impacted by trauma, and helps to create organizations that are trauma-informed. Most importantly the program focuses on helping mental health professionals practice and focus on self-care and healing to promote resiliency for themselves and for communities served.

In this webinar, Dr. Julian Ford discusses pandemic effects on complex trauma, especially for frontline healthcare workers. He introduces 'Therapeutic Psychological First Aid' and how to manage secondary traumatic stress. It also provides information so attendees can learn about worsening trauma symptoms, parallels in frontline workers' reactions, and applying Psychological First Aid for support.

The Violence, Evidence, Guidance, Action (VEGA) Project at McMaster University has created pan-Canadian, evidence-based guidance and education resources to assist healthcare and social service providers in recognizing and responding safely to family violence. VEGA focuses on three main types of family violence: child maltreatment, intimate partner violence, and children’s exposure to intimate partner violence. VEGA has developed an online platform of education resources comprised of learning modules (e.g., care pathways, scripts, how-to videos), interactive educational scenarios and a handbook. These will equip healthcare and social service providers (including students) in addressing the needs of those who may have experienced family violence.

Dr. Bruce Perry discusses trauma's lifelong impact, principles for engaging with affected youth, and Berry Street's Take Two program, which is a therapeutic service helping to address the mental health impacts of abuse, neglect or adverse experiences in children who have experienced trauma.

In a brief 45-minute webinar, Dr. Ginny Sprang and colleagues underscore the need for systematic approaches in schools to address student and educator trauma support, focusing on common language, multi-tiered systems, and educator assistance.

This panel, presented during the 2022 Trauma Symposium, addresses how understanding school disengagement can help provide targeted prevention and intervention strategies in order to mitigate substance use, delinquency, and dropping out. It also focuses on the importance of considering child interpersonal trauma as a risk factor for these adverse outcomes.
