The Brain Architects is a new podcast that focuses on the specific, practical questions that often arise during the critically important period of early childhood. Bringing together experts and practitioners from pediatrics, social services, and education, among other disciplines, the podcast gathers many different voices that aren’t always speaking directly to each other. The Brain Architects can help all of us can use the science of child development to improve the lives of the children we interact with every day.

In this episode, Vicki Mansfield (Social Worker and Practice Development Officer at Emerging Minds) discusses the importance of trauma-informed pregnancy and post-natal care for people who’ve experienced sexual trauma. Vicki draws on her experience working within antenatal clinics, maternity wards and perinatal infant mental health services. She explores how a safe and empathic relationship with pregnant people can support their agency and choices in preparing for birth and promote emotional wellbeing for both parent and infant as they transition through this major life change.

This Youtube Series named Well@Work, offers a wide range of videos including Dr. Ginny Sprang where worker's wellness, secondary traumatic stress, resilience, staff retention and many more subjects are discussed. Practical tips for management of emotions and stress at work are also included.

This course is designed to increase awareness and knowledge about child sexual exploitation and abuse, including abuse facilitated by technology, and promote evidence-based strategies and actions for prevention and response. The course covers policy, advocacy and a wide range of programmatic aspects and draws on UNICEF’s evidence review and brief on “Action to End Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation”.

The Provincial Caregiver Training Team offers caregivers training aligned with research, laws, policies, and Indigenous perspectives. Training covers key frameworks like Signs of Safety and trauma-informed approaches. It includes self-paced learning via PRIDE and virtual Alberta-specific courses.

This pathway is for all practitioners working with adults, whether as a generalist practitioner or as an AOD specialist. It explores the potential impacts of parental substance use on children’s relationships, physical and mental health, and wellbeing. It provides a guide for talking with parents about their substance use and how it may be affecting their child, and strategies to help empower parents by identifying their strengths and the hopes they have for their family. These courses include: The Impact of Parental Substance Use on the Child, and Parental substance use and child-aware practice.

This training, created by Sheri Madigan, is focused on the AMBIANCE-brief tool, derived from the Atypical Maternal Behavior Instrument for Assessment and Classification, aiming in screening disrupted parenting behaviors in clinical settings. This supports identifying high-risk families and planning interventions, staff training, and risk screening activities in family services.
